The periodontium is the term we use to designate the set of structures\nthat surround the tooth and keep it functional in its position. However, plaque\nbuildup or dental calculus (calcified plaque) can induce inflammation of the\ngums. In its milder degrees, we call it gingivitis. On this occasion the most\ncommon symptom is bleeding, accompanied by swelling and redness of the gingiva.\nWith the correct sanitation, it is possible to revert the condition without sequelae.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When gingivitis evolves and begins to cause irreparable losses to the\nsupporting tissues of the tooth, we call it periodontitis. If left untreated,\nperiodontitis can lead to tooth loss. \n\nPeriodontal treatment consists of the\ndecontamination of the teeth, including the surface of their roots, seeking to\nrestore the health of the tissues. For long-lasting results, patients must\ncompromise, because the success of the treatment depends to a large degree on\nmaintaining the correct sanitation on a daily basis.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gingival esthetics<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the past, we have heard a lot about dental esthetics, but with the\nevolution of techniques, we realized that the esthetics of the smile goes far beyond\na beautiful teeth.
